Sarcopenia Screening Calculator
A stepwise tool following the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia algorithm: case-finding, grip strength, lean muscle mass, then muscle performance.
Step 0
Patient details
Required before scoring — cut-offs are sex- and age-specific.
Biological sex
Age
Step 1 — SARC-CalF
Case-finding
Six items. A total ≥ 11 suggests probable sarcopenia.
Strength — difficulty lifting and carrying 5 kg
Walking — difficulty walking across a room
Chair — difficulty transferring from chair to bed
Stairs — difficulty climbing 10 stairs
Falls in the past year
Calf circumference (largest point, standing)
Step 2
Grip strength
Cut-offs depend on sex and age.
Best of trials, dominant hand (kg)
Step 3
Lean muscle mass
Appendicular skeletal muscle mass adjusted for height² (ASM / ht²).
Measurement method
Step 4
Muscle performance
Any one test determines severity.
